Beef Stew With Ale Category: beef/Soup/stew Get More Recipes

Ingredients Amount Variations
chuck steak 2 1/2 lb.s  
oil 3 T.  
onions, chopped 4 large  
garlic, crushed 2 cloves RC Garlic Base
prepared mustard 1 T.  
flour 2 T.  
ale 1 1/2 cups any beer or even alcohol free
Beef Redibase 1 1/2 tsp. RC Beef, Veal, Lamb or Pork Base
bay leaf 1 Ground Bay Leaves
parsley, sprigs 2  
peppercorns 1/2 tsp.  
thyme 1/2 tsp.  
sugar 1 tsp.  
nutmeg, ground 1/4 tsp.  

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Trim beef and brown in a skillet in hot oil.

Transfer beef to a casserole. Brown onions in oil in separate skillet. Add garlic, mustard, and flour.

Stir in ale and add the Redibase and "bouquet garni" (whole seasonings wrapped in cheesecloth and tied with a string).

Add sugar and nutmeg.

Pour sauce over browned beef. Cover casserole and place in the oven for 2 hours.
